The ideal solo weekend itinerary - Episode 14

In life, the deepest relationship we have is with ourselves. I’m coming fresh off of a solo weekend and sharing my ideal itinerary of what I get up to when I have a few days to myself ranging from productive things like bits of work and cleaning to simple indulgences that make me happy.

Create & consume

What I’m creating this week: a reel sharing my thoughts on short-form content and how it can lead to burnout

What I’m consuming this week: It Ends With Us, the film based on Colleen Hoover’s novel by the same name. TW for domestic violence in this film.

In this episode:

Whether you're in a long-term relationship or just looking for some time to yourself, there’s something incredibly refreshing about taking a weekend to recharge on your own.

We know I love Andrew (I couldn’t live in a one bedroom apartment together with him for 5 years if I didn’t lol) but when he told me he was spending the weekend with his friends down the shore, I knew right then and there it was time for a solo weekend.

Friday evening

After a busy week, I love to kick off my solo weekend with a quick 15-20 minutes of movement.

Ideally it’s a Peloton core workout, but otherwise I’ll go for a walk.

Once that’s done, I treat myself to some takeout—whatever I’m craving at the moment—and settle in for a cozy night of TV.

It’s the perfect way to unwind and start the weekend on a relaxed note.

Saturday morning

I like to start my Saturday with a morning bike ride on my Peloton. Usually I’ll ride for 50-60 minutes (currently the length of two episodes of Sex & The City.)

Afterward, I’ll get a little bit of work done, but nothing too demanding—just enough to feel productive without overcommitting and my laptop must be shut by noon.

Saturday afternoon

The rest of the day is all about chilling. I love reading outside when it’s nice out, shopping at vintage stores or even just having an afternoon to rot on the couch and catch up on TV.

It’s nice to have no obligations or plans, allowing myself to do whatever feels right in the moment.

Saturday night

For dinner, I am likely grabbing takeout again and I will likely pick either something that Andrew wouldn’t normally order or something that makes more sense to order for one person.

If I want to pop out for a bit on my own, I might bring a book to a bar and have a glass of wine. I would usually do that early before it gets more crowded.

It’s nice to be in a social setting, but still be in my own little world.

Sunday morning

Sunday morning ideally starts with a long walk, accompanied by a podcast.

I love to get after it early, finding an open coffee shop along the way for a little pick-me-up.

It’s a peaceful way to enjoy the morning and set a positive tone for the day.

Sunday afternoon

Once I’m back home, it’s time for some cleaning and a Sunday reset.

Depending on my mood, I might do an overall clean or focus on deep cleaning one section of my home. (This past weekend it was the black hole of the under the bathroom sink storage area.)

It’s therapeutic and makes me feel ready for the week ahead.

I will also reset digitally by checking out what’s on the agenda for the work week ahead and schedule some emails to go out Monday morning if needed.

Other solo weekend favorites

While I didn’t get to these activities on my most recent solo weekend, these are two other alone time favorite past times of mine:

  • Museums: Wandering through a museum at my own pace is such a treat. Living right next to NYC means I’m spoiled with options!

  • Solo Target Trip: There’s something so satisfying about a solo trip to Target—just me, my thoughts, my chai latte from Starbucks and the aisles of endless possibilities.

Summary

Taking time for yourself can be incredibly rejuvenating, and I highly recommend trying out some of these activities if you’re in need of a little me-time.
