Advice for my 20-year-old self - Episode 44

Looking back, there are so many lessons I wish I could share with my younger self. If I could hop in a time machine, here’s the top advice I’d give myself.

our twenties are this weird mix of excitement and uncertainty, where you’re trying to figure out who you are, what you want, and how to actually make it all happen.

Create & consume

In this episode:

Start before you’re ready

I’ve always been an early adopter when it comes to trying new platforms, but if I could do it all over again, I’d have started creating on YouTube sooner. You don’t need to have everything perfectly figured out to begin. The experience you gain from simply starting is invaluable.

If you have a hunch, follow it

Some of my best decisions came from trusting my instincts. Monetizing my blog and exploring multiple income streams weren’t obvious choices at first, but they led to incredible opportunities. And even when a hunch didn’t work out, like my designer internship, those experiences taught me valuable lessons about what I didn’t want—which is just as important.

Your job evolves and so will you

When I was younger, I believed my career defined me. But jobs change, industries shift, and layoffs happen. I learned to stay open to pivots and trust myself through uncertainty. The last five years especially taught me that there’s so much more to life than work.

Don’t believe everything you see on social media

It’s easy to get caught up in the highlight reels of other people’s lives. The luxury apartments, designer hauls, and extravagant vacations can make you feel like you need to keep up. Living below your means and focusing on what genuinely makes you happy will serve you far better in the long run.

Relationships aren’t always 50/50

At first, I was determined to split everything evenly with Andrew. But life isn’t always perfectly balanced, and that’s okay. The same goes for friendships. Relationships ebb and flow, and the best ones are built on patience, understanding, and support when it’s needed most.

Your value isn’t tied to your metrics

In the world of content creation, it’s easy to equate your worth with your follower count or views. But you have to find joy in the process itself. Think of it like shooting hoops in the park just because you love it—not because anyone is watching.

Time is your most valuable asset

Learning to delegate and set boundaries has been a game changer. Whether it’s hiring a video editor or using grocery delivery, knowing when to outsource can free up time for what truly matters. Protecting your time is one of the best investments you can make.

It’s never too late

You don’t need to wait until a new year, a new month, or even a Monday to start fresh. If there’s something you want to change or pursue, go for it. Life is too short to wait.

In summary

These lessons have shaped who I am today, and I’m grateful for every twist and turn that got me here. If you’re in your 20s (or just in need of some big sister style advice), I hope these reflections offer some encouragement and perspective as you navigate your own path.
